Company policy and quality documentation
With an unwavering commitment to product quality and purity, Nieddittas has always implemented stringent preventive and control measures to guarantee food safety across the entire production chain. This approach is applied at all stages, from sea processing and harvesting, to purification, analysis, packaging, and distribution throughout Italy. To this end, our company adheres to a set of voluntary standards, including certifications such as IFS FOOD and 22005:2007.
IFS Food is standard recognized by GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). It certifies the safety and quality of food products and production processes, guaranteeing product safety and compliance with legal requirements. It is assessed through a single, internationally valid evaluation system. This certification is a requirement for agrifood companies who work with large-scale distribution.
ISO 22005:2007 is an international standard for supply chain traceability and food safety management systems. Its objectives are the following:
- Ensuring that customers receive products that meet food safety and quality objectives;
- Tracing the product's lineage from its initial cultivation at the farms through the subsequent stages of processing at the factory, which include receipt, purification, sorting, net packing, and labeling;
- Ensuring consumers have full and timely control of the company in the event of a product recall or the identification of non-conforming items.
Thanks to their exceptional quality, Nieddittas mussels (designated as "live bivalve mollusks from the Gulf of Oristano") have been included in the national list of traditional agrifood products published by Ministerial Decree 14.06.02 in the Official Gazette No. 167 of 18.07.02 and subsequent amendments and additions.
In October 2013, the entire Nieddittas mussels production chain achieved product certification. We are the first Italian company and the only Sardinian company in the industry to have obtained this certification for the entire production chain, from finishing at sea to delivery. This achievement further reinforces the quality of our offer. The CERTIFIED PRODUCT Certiquality DT No. 72 certification guarantees that mussels which are re-immersed in the waters of the Gulf of Oristano for a minimum of 28 days develop all the same color, flavor, texture, and aroma of mussels born and raised in these pristine waters.
Over the years, our focus on product excellence has merged with our dedication to protecting the environment in which Nieddittas operates. This is why we proactively engaged in a voluntary process to gain ISO 14001:2015 and ASC standards. ISO 14001:2015 is internationally recognized as the gold standard for environmental management systems. It provides a management framework for integrating environmental management practices, with a focus on environmental protection, pollution prevention, and the reduction of energy and resource consumption.
ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) is the leading international sustainable aquaculture certification scheme. Among the various requirements of the standard, special emphasis is placed on the resources used in farming activities, such as feed, chemicals, fuel consumption, energy, and other resources. Requirements around social responsibility and ethics are also placed upon the employees working within the certified facility, and their compliance is assessed.
Lastly, among its array of certifications, Nieddittas proudly holds the organic product certification, achieved in 2021. This certification also guarantees our compliance and adherence to strict standards when it comes to sustainable farming and production methods that protect our local environment. In order to be classed as organic, products must come from organic farms from the outset.
