7. Nieddittas: the history
The Società Cooperativa Pescatori Arborea was founded in 1967 by the association of nine fishermen.
When it was first set up, the Cooperative’s main activity was fishing and the retail and wholesale distribution of fish products at markets in the provinces of Oristano and Cagliari.
In 1970, the first farming trials, which continued until 1983, began in Corru Mannu. This was a period of modest business evolution that proved decisive for future developments. In fact, in the early 1980s, the Cooperative recognized the need to market purified molluscs. Consequently, in 1984, it designed and built the current purification and dispatch center for live bivalve molluscs.
Since then, the Cooperative’s main activities have been mussel farming, purification, and shipping.
Over the years, it has become one of the most important mussel farming and fishing businesses in Italy. All products are sourced from our excellent product chain in the Gulf of Oristano in Sardinia.
Consistently healthy and safe products that are checked at every stage of processing, from the Sardinian sea to the large scale distributors’ platforms, are guaranteed by a controlled production chain that respects the sea and the land.
The Nieddittas a domicilio service has also been operating since 2020, delivering products directly to end consumers’ homes.
